I found this press release from Ski Utah via Larry Walsh in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. There's a nice prize in it for you if you come up with the best new "werd" that describes both snowboarding and snow skiing.
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Is there one word out there that describes both skiing and snowboarding? Because, we’ll be honest with you, the industry is lazy and they’re looking for an alternative to the three-word, 21-letter standard.
In an effort to coin this new term, Ski Utah and Winter at Westminster have teamed with The Addictionary, an online dictionary of made up werds, for the 2008 Ski/Snowboard Lingo Contest.
There are two goals and two chances to win. The goals? To add to the general glossary of skier and snowboarder lingo and name the best new werd for 2008; and to come up with that one werd – the mighty catch-all, the great equalizer, the big peacemaker – that describes both skiing and snowboarding in one fell swoop. There will be one winner in each category.
The Ski/Snowboard Lingo contest runs from February 4 – March 4, 2008. The winners will be chosen by a panel of celebrity judges.

If you're looking for a complete overview of snow conditions in Garrett County and nearby Canaan Valley, visit the Chamber's Garrett County Snow and Ski Report. The information covers areas for downhill and cross country skiing, as well as snowshoeing.

Although there are great places for cross-country skiing in Garrett County, I thought it was worth mentioning that nearby White Grass, in Davis, West Virginia, was listed in USA Today as one of the "10 Great Places to Peacefully Glide Cross Country" in the U.S.

The Deep Creek Winter Sports Team will be hosting the CBIZ Classic Giant Slalom Ski Race this Sunday, January 13 at Wisp Resort. This USSA competitive racing series will be bringing in Junior Racers from the regional area, including racers from Seven Springs, Hidden Valley, Blue Knob, Whitetail and Ski Liberty. A large amount of racers are expected to compete in the CBIZ Classic due to the f
act that Wisp Resort has better conditions than many areas east of Garrett County. Team members traveled to Seven Springs last weekend to race slalom.
Here's a first hand report from Jim Kenney, DCSki Columnist, from a recent trip to Wisp.
