On Sunday, I was part of the race patrol for the Deep Creek Yacht Racing Association. It's been a while since I've participated or patrolled in a race and I forgot how hairy it can get out there. There was lots of wind and a good chance that a boat would go over during the race. Thankfully, patrolling proved to be uneventful as all of the Scots managed to stay upright.
For those of you who think the race is just a nice relaxing day out on the lake, think again. It is tricky maneuvering for these boats as they all aim for the starting line and then round the marks. I was amazed at how close they come to each other while flying at top speed. For more information on the races and the results, read the weekly sailing report by Dan Muss in The Republican's printed edition.
