Cam Crazy on the Lake

I continue to be amazed at the locations where "cams" have cropped up around the lake. This past weekend I heard a group of friends joking about who saw who on the Honi's cam....and today I found the Pizza Cam in the kitchen at Brenda's Pizzeria.  Here are some other cams that I've discovered around Deep Creek.

Wisp Web Cams

Adventure Sports Center Web Cams

Garrett College's Learning Resource Center Construction Cam

The Deep Creek Times cam over at the Creamery

Deep Creek Times cam number 2

Railey's Deep Creek Lake cam

I'm sure there are more.  Feel free to comment on any that I've missed.

A Great Bear Picture

Check out this photo from the Cumberland Times-News, taken on Monday in Westernport.  Here's the related story.

Another Picture from Hickory Ridge

I think this one, also taken Thursday, would make a good painting.  I'll have to pass it along to Bob. Garrett_county_41907_036

Horses on Hickory Ridge

I came across this scene of horses up along Hickory Ridge Lane late Thursday.  Garrett_county_41907_035_6The picture was taken just as the nice weather was moving into the area.   It attests to the limitless beauty that one can find in Garrett County.

All Kinds of Surprises at the Discovery Center

I had an opportunity to talk with Patty Manown Mash at The Discovery Center this weekend about all of the exciting things going on at the Center. Patty explained that although many residents and visitors are familiar with the Discovery Center, most view it as a one time trip and think if they've visited once, they've seen it all. In fact, the Center is always offering new opportunities for fun and learning.   It's more than a nature center, as Patty explains, it is an educational interpretive center.

On my visit, I was able to have a naturalist describe the Monarch Butterfly Tagging Program that the Discovery Center participates in as well as see some of the regular exhibits.  As a special bonus, Frog, one of the naturalists on staff, took my daughter and some other children visiting the center out to the Scales & Tales Aviary for an impromptu visit with the some red tailed-hawks and a screech owl.  I also got to see the spot where the Forest Canopy Walkway will be built.

The Discovery Center has a monthly calendar of events for visitors of all ages.   Events in April include Critter Encounter, the Natural Egg Dyeing Program that I wrote about earlier this month, and guided hikes, to name a few.  For more information, contact the Discovery Center at 301-387-7067.
