Weekend Wrap Up

My dad and I had a nice time this past weekend at Art in the Park.  Thanks to everyone who stopped by the tent to say hello.  Sorry if you missed us yesterday afternoon.  We had to pack it up when the first storm came in, as the watercolor paintings and other products really can't take any water or much humidity.  If you're interested in finding something from Robert Yonke, you can find his art print cards at Trader's Coffeehouse, The Shoppe at Heritage Square, The Mountaintop Shop at ASCI, and the Orvis Shop at Wisp Resort.   You'll find prints and originals in addition to the cards at The Gallery in Oakland and Penn Alps

Art in the Park is always a nice event and we really enjoyed ourselves despite having to leave early.  We enjoyed meeting some new friends, like Butch Upole with his All Natural Pictures and Mike Furbee with Smell Like a Monkey.  We also got to spend some time with artist Judith Becker from Alpine Lake.  Visit The Bluegrass Painter site for pictures from the event.

About the Deep Creek Blog and Positive News

A reader sent me an email this morning asking why I would I state The Deep Creek Blog only posts positive news and then go and post a link to a story about gas exploration in Garrett County.  This reader does not feel that this would such a great thing for the county thus not keeping with my "happy place" promise.  My intent in posting the link news about the Marcellus Shale deposit was to bring this news story about Garrett County to my readers’ attention.  I will continue to link to stories that I find like this, such as reports about proposed wind farms and other developments.

She raised a good point, however.  I try to keep the site light and fun, but I cannot guarantee that my news will always be viewed as "positive", because people have their own opinions on all kinds of things going on in Garrett County.  With regard to my attempt to report only "positive news", I should have said that I will report news and other stories of interest about the area.  I will do my best to avoid injecting my personal opinions on controversial issues or getting involved in local arguments on my site.  I welcome comments about The Deep Creek Blog.  Please feel free to contact me at info@deepcreekblog.com

About "The Deep Creek Blog"

The Deep Creek Blog has been in publication for well over a year now. I'd like to take an opportunity to thank everyone who reads the site and the advertisers who support it.  Also, I'd like to take time to outline some basic information about this blog and blogging in general.  This will be an ongoing series that I hope is useful, starting with the basics.

What is a blog?

The term "blog" is short for "web log".  This form of a web site began as an outlet for personal journaling, but has since evolved into many different varieties.  Many blog platforms are now used to publish what appear to be more traditional web sites on all sorts of topics.

The Deep Creek Blog

The Deep Creek Blog is designed to provide fun, positive and useful information regarding Deep Creek Lake, Garrett County, Maryland and the surrounding area.  While the lake is often the focal point, Garrett County and the surrounding counties have many events and places that I like to share with readers as well. I emphasize "positive" because it is my opinion that the internet and life in general are already full of enough conflict and negativity, without me adding to or dwelling on it. Deep Creek Lake has always been my "happy place", as I suspect it is for many of my readers, and I intend to keep it that way here on The Deep Creek Blog.  Kapish?

Where do I get my information?

Other news publications - Many times I will link to a story on another web site and sometimes will include a short excerpt from the article. I review many publications such as The Republican and The Times-News as well as regional and national publications to aggregate articles that my readers might find interesting about this area and its amenities.

Press releases.  Many organizations send me press releases. I will consider for publication any press release that is relevant to the subject matter of this site.

Original Content - I work to provide original articles and postings that I hope will benefit my readers.

As a note, while I obviously work to promote my advertisers, I do not exclude individuals or companies that do not advertise with The Deep Creek Blog from my content.  If your story is interesting, positive and relevant to this blog, I will publish it.

Look for more posts in the upcoming weeks to answer questions about blogging in general and The Deep Creek Blog.
