The Post-Gazette has an article today on the ramp, a wild leek celebrated throughout the region this time of year.  The story mentions some ramp festivals such as the event at the Deep Creek Lake State Park on Saturday April 26.

A Good Year for Maryland Wine

The lack of rain in Maryland this year made it a good year for the grape.  You can read all about it in Maryland winemakers toast dry year, grape harvest from Gazette.net.  Paul Roberts, co-owner of Deep Creek Cellars, is quoted extensively in the article.

Pizza and Coffee

My dad and I had to run over to Trader's Coffee House this afternoon to take care of some business, so we decided to take the whole brood out for pizza.  It was a good way to get the kids (five of them, age seven and under...) out of the house.  If you haven't been to Brenda's Pizzeria yet, you are missing out on the best pizza on the lake.

On the way out, we treated ourselves to some beverages from the Coffee House.  I've had the coffee before and know it's good.  My sister in law said her drink was the best Chai Latte she's ever had...

Wine Tastings at the Fireside Deli & Wine Shop

Maryellen from the Fireside Deli & Wine Shop dropped me a note to please remind readers that the Shop holds wine tastings every Saturday from noon until 4:00 pm.  She carries mostly small production, specialty wines and features at least five at the tastings...always a fun event.

Fireside Deli & Wine Shop

If you haven't made your way over to the Fireside Deli & Wine Shop on Glendale Road yet, maybe this post will encourage a visit.  This place is a must see if you are a lover of wine, cheese, or gourmet foods.  I tend to visit the place when I have friends visiting from out of town...usually when we're out and about as everyone seems to enjoy the stop off for the exotic cheeses and the other treats in the shop.  Plus, the ambiance is great, it's a fun place to hang out for a bit.  The place isn't just for "tourists", however.  If you're a lake regular, it's worth a trip (or multiple trips) as you'll find.

On my last visit in, we ended up with four different kinds of cheese, and I was so busy tasting I didn't really get their official names.  I emailed the store and Maryellen was kind enough to provide me with the correct names of what I had purchased.  Mango Ginger Stilton, Blueberry Stilton, Sage Derby (a yummy bright green color), and Gloucester with Chives...all fantastic.  We ended up enjoying these watching the sun go down on Turkey Neck...She tells me that these are some of the most popular, but there are many more to try.

You might recognizes some of these faces when you stop in.  The picture below is of Hannah, Adam and Terry.  The staff is really friendly, will let you taste test and help to answer any questions that you have.  Enjoy!
