PSO at Deep Creek Lake

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra heads back to Deep Creek Lake this weekend for two performances.  Friday's Pops performance is sold out, but there are still tickets available for the Saturday evening Classical performance

Swingtime at Little Yough Summer Music Festival

The band Swingtime will appear on Friday, July 18th at Little Yough Summer Music Festival. Swingtime is a “big band” consisting of sax, full brass, and rhythm sections as well as a vocalist. Primarily a swing band, their play list includes those classics as well as smooth jazz, ballads, waltzes, big band favorites, and tunes from Broadway.

Kudos to Jack Cougle, Oakland Main Street Manager, for getting the Little Yough Summer Music Festival web site updated including a current performance schedule and sponsors for 2008.

Spruce Forest Summer Quilt and Craft Festival

The annual Spruce Forest Summer Quilt and Craft Festival takes place takes place on July 11 through the 13th from 10AM-6PM.  This educational festival showcases the traditional craft of quilting.   Enjoy quilt displays and demonstrations, mountain music, and regional foods. Quilts are judged in eleven categories.  Quilts, quality crafts and quilt-related supplies will be available for purchase.

Karen Collins and The Backroads Band at Little Yough

Karen Collins and The Backroads Band play the Little Yough Music Festival on Friday July 11 at 7:00 pm in the Mountain Fresh Pavilion in Oakland.   Karen Collins and her band are one of the Washington area's top retro honky tonk bands, playing classic country music.  The band features Karen Collins (vocals, fiddle, and rhythm guitar), Ira Gitlin (lead guitar and vocals), Geff King (bass and vocals) and Rob Howe (drums). All four of the Backroads members have been performing musicians for many years and bring a wide array of diverse musical experiences to the group.

Don't miss the 9th Annual Art in the Park at the Deep Creek Lake State Park this weekend, 10-5 on July 12 and 10-4 on July 13.  The free event features over forty artists, great Dixieland music, food, roving naturalists and art demonstrations.  Travel by boat or car to this event.  The festival is sponsored by the Western Garrett County State Park Volunteers and the Garrett County Arts Council.
