Photo Contest Offers Maryland Getaway

Share your Maryland memories with theTourism Office and you may win a Maryland getaway. Submit your Maryland photos to the MD Travel photostream on Flickr by Sept. 8 (the day after Labor Day). The Tourism Office and the Maryland State Arts Council will select the top 20 images, which will be posted on the Maryland Tourism site on or about Sept. 14. Individuals can then vote for their favorite. A grand winner will be announced Sept. 21, the last day of summer.

DNR Kicks off 6th Annual Natural Resource Photo Contest

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is now accepting entries for the 6th Annual Maryland Natural Resource Photo Contest. The contest invites student, amateur and professional photographers to submit photos of Maryland’s diverse natural resources now through September 11, 2009.

Photographers of all ages can win more than $1,200 in prizes and a chance to have their outdoor images published in print and online. Winning entries will be featured in the winter issue of The Maryland Natural Resource magazine as well as the 2010 DNR calendar.

Photos entered into the 2009 contest will be judged within five categories: birds, wildlife (from fish to frogs to foxes), insects, from mountains to the Bay (landscape), wild plants and Maryland State Parks.

All qualifying photographs must be taken in Maryland. Photographers may submit up to three entries for a $10 entry fee. Photos cannot be more than two years old or previously published. Non-residents may participate as long as the photos were taken in Maryland. Winners will be announced online October 15.

A New Deep Creek Blog Contest

It's time for another contest on The Deep Creek Blog!

The Deep Creek Lake "Bucket List" Contest

The Maryland Office of Tourism recently published a "Bucket List", based upon the movie starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, where the two characters work to complete items on their "bucket list", that is..things that they want to do before they kick the bucket.  Maryland's bucket list has a couple of obvious ones from Garrett County, but doesn't come near to hitting on all of the great things to do in the Deep Creek Lake area.  So, I've decided to put together a new bucket list, enlisting the help of my great readers.   

Send me your ideas of what should be on the Deep Creek Lake and Garrett County "Bucket List". Anyone who sends me an idea for the list will get their name entered into a random drawing to win a signed and matted  11"x14" "Five O' Clock Somewhere" print from local artist Robert Yonke.
