Deep Creek 2014, the host organization for the 2014 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, is hosting an Opening Ceremony at Garrett College Community Aquatic Recreation Complex (CARC) and at Wisp Resort the evening of Wednesday, September 17 to kick off the 2014 World Championships. Tickets for the Opening Ceremony are $10 per person and available at www.deepcreek2014.com, Penn Alps Restaurant in Grantsville, Get n Go in Oakland, and the Visitor’s Center and Wisp ticket office in McHenry.
The Championships kick off on Wednesday, September 17 with the Opening Ceremony from 7 pm – 8:30 pm at the Garrett College CARC. Doors open at 6 pm at the Garrett College CARC where all ticket holders will receive a Red Deep Creek 2014 bandanna designed by children's illustrator Sandra Boynton. The 48 countries will be introduced and walked in by local 5th graders. Local dignitaries will speak and entertainment will be provided by dance group Boundless Energy, Brenda’s Body Shop Garrett County Gives Dancers and extreme pogo group Xtreme Pogo, who has been featured on America's Got Talent, NBA halftime shows, and more. PANnikin Steel Drum Group will also perform and a commemorative video of the 1989 World Championships held on the Savage River will be shown as well as music by the McHenry Highlanders.
Wisp Resort will host the World Championship Kick-off Party from 7 pm – 10:00 pm featuring live music with Shelf Life String Band. Concessions and cash bar available. Following the ceremony at CARC, at 9 pm there will be a champagne toast and a spotlighted Flag Ascension via chairlift by Deep Creek 2014 mascot, Eddy the Otter, transported by Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Department, and a fireworks display.
Daily World Championships happenings from Sept. 18 – 21 at Adventure Sports Center International (ASCI) atop of Wisp Resort include competition qualifying heats, semi-finals, finals and medal ceremonies and the Whitewater Fest on the Mountain including live music, entertainment including the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, food, concessions, merchandise, Whitewater Hall of Fame Exhibition and Children’s Play Area. Opening ceremony tickets, one-day event admission passes, or an All Session Admission Pass valid for all four days of competition, are available for purchase online at www.deepcreek2014.com and at the following local ticket partners: Garrett County Chamber of Commerce, Wisp Resort, Railey Mountain Lake Vacations, Deep Creek Realty-Coldwell Banker, Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations, Long & Foster Deep Creek Resort, and Deep Creek Mountain Land Partners, all located in McHenry. Tickets for the opening ceremony are also available at Get N Go in Oakland Penn Alps in Grantsville.
Tickets purchased from the deepcreek2014.com website can be picked up at the Wisp Resort ticket office from September 8 – 13 from 11 am – 1 pm, September 15-17 from 11 am – 3 pm, and September 18-21 from 8 am – 3 pm.
There is a limited quantity of Adventure Sports Center International mountaintop parking passes available only with the purchase of All Session Passes. All others will park in satellite locations at the Wisp Resort and Garrett County Fairgrounds and a free shuttle service will be provided.
