This season brings more options for locals and visitors to buy locally produced farm foods. According to the Garrett County Office of Economic Development, Garrett county is home to at least thirty-five farms growing fresh produce on over 110 acres. There's no excuse not to eat fresh and local, whether you're a resident or visitor. Here are some options for the 2014 season:
Garrett Growers Veggie Box Program - A CSA, or vegetable subscription, is available for customers to prepay for fifteen weeks of fresh produce delivered to their door. The program will provide a different variety of fruits, berries, vegetables and herbs each week. The program is available to people along the Route 219 corridor between Oakland and Accident. More information is available at www.garrettgrowers.com or by calling 240-321-9636.
If the CSA doesn't work for you, then the Mountain Fresh Producers Association Farmers Market in Oakland opens the season on Saturday June 7. The market is open 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday and Saturday through the end of October. For more information visit www.mountainfresh.org.
If you're not much into cooking..or in town for a vacation or weekends only, consider one of Garrett County's Farm to Table restaurants or retailers.
