Channel modifications at the Adventure Sports Center International (ASCI) to prepare for the Deep Creek 2014 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in September 2014 are complete. Beitzel Corporation worked under the direction of Bob Campbell, Technical Director Deep Creek 2014; Ben Nielsen, Project Engineer, McLaughlin Whitewater Design Group, and Rick McLaughlin Lead Engineer McLaughlin Whitewater Design Group on the channel modifications. McLaughlin Whitewater Design Group designed the original course for the Adventure Sports Center International and are a part of the course adjustments and tuning along with Campbell's company Whitewater Parks International.
“We are ready to welcome the world to this spectacular venue, ASCI, for the Deep Creek 2014 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships,” said Bob Campbell. Deep Creek 2014 Executive Director Todd Copley, says, “We are very excited about the recent completed channel improvement outcome because this (ASCI) is truly a World Championship Venue, but more importantly it will provide great rafting and commercial viability.”
Deep Creek 2014 is the event production company and host organization presenting the 2014 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, the largest inbound sporting event to the United States in 2014, at Adventure Sports Center International in Garrett County, Maryland from September 17 – 21, 2014. The 2014 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships will bring international focus to Maryland’s scenic western-most county with 300 athletes from over 35 international countries competing and over 21.5 million international broadcast television viewers around the world. Over 20,000 spectators are expected in Garrett County to watch the event and the events planned throughout the summer leading up to the competition. The teams and athletes will be arriving in the region during the Labor Day weekend and will be onsite through the end of the World Championships on September 21. A total of over $20 million dollars is anticipated in regional economic impact. The 2013 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships were held in Prague, Czech Republic, Deep Creek, MD hosts the 2014 World Championships and the 2015 Championships will be held in London, England.
