A committee has been formed to help raise funds for Fred Holliday, II, who is currently going through multiple and aggressive treatments to contain recently discovered cancer. Fred II, the son of Commissioner Fred and Mrs. Joan Holliday, is a 1988 graduate of Northern Garrett High School and is a former Grantsville resident.
This fund will help with living expenses and to defray medical costs from the multiple surgeries and procedures conducted by doctors at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. Along with the fund, there will be a buffet style dinner and Ice Cream Social on Sunday, May 31st at the Avilton Community Center, on 8925 Avilton/Lonaconing Road, Frostburg, MD. The event will include live music and a Chinese Auction. All of the food and gift items are being donated by local businesses.
The cost will be $15 for adults and $5 for kids and donations will be accepted at the door for the Freddie Holliday II Fund. The event will begin at 1:00 PM and will last until 5:00 PM. Tickets may be purchased at a number of places in the county including the Gallery in Oakland, the Garrett County Commissioner’s office in Oakland, Little Sandy’s Restaurant in McHenry, Deep Creek Outfitter’s Hardware, Beachy’s Pharmacy in Grantsville and Grantsville Liquors.
Currently, Fred II is now a patient at Shady Grove Adventist Rehab Center after undergoing surgery to have a rod inserted into his hip due to a fracture caused by a pathologic break. The rehabilitation will prepare him for future surgery to remove his kidney.
Fred II is married to his wife Regina. Together they are the proud parents of two children, Freddie III, age 10 and Issac, age 3. Cards can be sent to him at 4850 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Apt. 211, Washington, DC, 20008.
Fred recently received his Ph. D. in Theatre and Film at the University of Kansas and is employed as an Assistant Professor of Film Studies at American University in Washington, DC. Fred has also taught courses at Towson University, University of the District of Columbia, and Carroll Community College.
Donations can also be sent to an account established in Fred II’s name at M & T Bank in Grantsville.
