Western Maryland and Garrett County will serve as host to the annual Maryland Teachers of The Year Retreat from March 27 – March 29. Along with helping to create the itinerary, Garrett County’s Teacher of the Year, Jenny Neville, will be hosting the retreat.
“We are extremely excited to host this prestigious group in Garrett County this year. After visiting Smith Island in southern Maryland, several of the teachers expressed an interest in visiting this region of Maryland. I was happy to help arrange this event. The people and businesses in Garrett County have been amazingly generous,” said Jenny Neville, Garrett County’s Teacher of the Year. “It’s a well-deserved reward for all of the teachers who work so hard, and I’m looking forward to presenting our county to the teachers from across the state. “
The retreat will kick off on Friday March 27 at Frostburg State University. This event has been arranged with assistance from Michaela Linn, Allegany Teacher of the Year. Other activities for the retreat will include stops at Accident’s Hickory Environmental Education Center and Planetarium, Garrett Engineering & Robotics Society, Additional stops include Adventure Sports Center International, Fork Run Recreation Area, and Wisp Resort before wrapping up on March 29 at Swallow Falls. Along with the teachers of the year from each county in the state, Dr. Darla Stouse, Executive Director of the Office of Partnership Development of MD State Department of Education and Regina Simpson, Management Associate with the MD State Department of Education, will be attending the retreat.
