Be Part of a Spectacular Show of Patriotism!
Volunteers are being sought to help form a giant Living American Flag as part of the fourth annual “Flag on Mountain Maryland” celebration on Flag Day, Saturday, June 14, 2008. In addition to the 6:30 pm Flag Day program with guest speakers, patriotic music, and a military fly-over, the Living American Flag promises to be special fun for everyone involved. Comprised of local volunteers dressed in red, white and blue, the Living Flag will be located on the side of the mountain at Wisp Resort.
Volunteering to be part of The Living Flag is a chance to show your patriotism, take part in a very meaningful community celebration, and pay tribute to the flag and our country. Individuals and community groups are invited to become involved. For youth groups, an adult leader is requested to assist with the line-up. Individual children under the age of 8 are asked to have a parent accompany them. Anyone interested in taking part should contact Sandra Blamble at sblamble@cebridge.net or 301-334-4728. A practice session will be held 7-10 days prior to the event. This practice session will be held at Wisp with the exact date yet to be determined.
For more than 25 years, The American Flag Foundation has sponsored the ‘National Pause for the Pledge of Allegiance’ on June 14th at Fort McHenry in Baltimore. With Garrett County’s McHenry and Baltimore’s Fort McHenry both named in honor of Dr. James McHenry, Garrett County hosts a Flag Day program to correspond with the Fort McHenry event. The Garrett County program was the first effort in an outreach program that is spreading across Maryland and to several other locations around the country.
