Spring 2008 Trout Stocking Schedule

It's time to start thinking about fly fishing in Garrett County.  The Spring 2008 Trout Stocking Schedule is now available on line from the DNR. Levels will be higher than last year, with more than 337,900 new trout entering waters across the state.  Complementing the DNR efforts, the Conservation Fund's Freshwater Institute has also pledge an additional 15,000 pounds of  rainbow Rainbowsmarktrout, each weighing 1.5 to 2 pounds.  Although stocking continues to be impacted by the closure of several hatchery facilities that are still recovering from the whirling disease outbreak, the DNR has contracted with private vendors to make up some of the shortfall.  The DNR urges continued vigilance by anglers to prevent spreading whirling, other disease and invasive organisms.  Anglers may also call 1-800-688-3467 for stocking updates or pick up the stocking schedule at local shops and DNR service centers.  Pictured here is Rainbow Trout by Robert Yonke.
