Deep Creek Lake State Park Update

This just in from Patty at the State Park...the main gate into the Deep Creek Lake State Park is closed for season.  Visitors may enter through the 24 hour boat ramp gate which is located down State Park Road from the main gate.  Parking is available in the boat trailer parking area and they can walk into the park from there. Restrooms in the boat trailer parking lot are still open.  All other restrooms are closed for the season.

Parking is also available in the Discovery Center parking lot, but the gate closes at 5:00 pm.  The Discovery Center is still open Friday through Sunday from 10 am until 4pm.

Key Ingredients Exhibit

Don't miss the Smithsonian Institution's Key Ingredients:  America By Food Exhibit while you can catch it at FSU's Compton Science Center.  The traveling exhibit runs until November 10th. 

We Sing!

WE SING! is a choral showcase featuring Allegany County's vocal ensembles:  the FSU Chamber Choir, the Chorus of the Potomac, and the Cumberland Choral Society.  The WE SING!  choral showcase will include a variety of general and seasonal music that will appeal to audiences of all ages and musical preferences.  Adult admission is $5 and under 16 is free.  The performance begins at 8:00 pm on Friday November 2nd at Windsor Hall on the Downtown Cumberland Mall.   For more information, visit the Allegany Arts Council web site.

Firefly Farms Award Winning Cheese

Thanks to Cheryl DeBerry for sending me a message about FireFly Farms winning awards at the 2007 American Dairy Goat Association competition held in Ft. Collins, Colorado.  The local farm earned two bronze medals, three gold medals and "Reserve Best in Show" for their artisan goat cheeses.
