Dickens of a Christmas
The town of Oakland presents a "Dickens of a Christmas", a holiday celebration that brings the historic town to life with the joy and charm of an old-fashioned Victorian Christmas, as recreated from the pages of the classic "A Christmas Carol". The Christmas Festivities Committee has been busy planning many exciting events for this celebration, which will take place November 23rd through December 22nd.
These magical old-fashioned weekends will include activities such as holiday progressive dinner, holiday inspired decorating demonstrations, candlelight shopping, a "Ghosts of A Christmas Past" parade, carol singing and tours around town on the "Snow Flake Express". More information will be available as plans are finalized.
The festival of weekends begins each Friday evening with storefronts decorated depicting Victorian times or Christmas themes. Carolers will stroll through the streets spreading holiday cheer. A Town Crier will announce events and specials offered by Oakland Main Street Merchants. Santa will arrive in Oakland each Friday evening in a different fashion. He will then greet children in his new downtown home, a "North Pole Rest Stop" with pictures and treats included.
"Oakland is a beautiful town in every season, but during Dickens of a Christmas it will really be magical," says Jack L. Cougle, Main Street Manager for the Town of Oakland, chairman of the event and the "Town Crier".
