The Times-News reported this week on the status of Lowe's Store coming to the area.
The Autumn Glory Royal Court is announced in The Republican.
As this is the 40th Annual Autumn Glory Festival, it's only fitting that history plays a part in the Kick-Off Reception. A display of memorabilia from past Autumn Glory festivals is planned with commemorative pins, photos, handwritten notes, old festival guides and many other items.
Anyone with items from past Autumn Glory Festivals that they would be willing to share for the event should contact Karen Reckner via phone at 301-387-4386 or email at karen@garretchamber.com.
I met Harold Harsh of Spring Creek Outfitters a few weeks ago at the Art & Wine Festival while he was talking fly-fishing with my dad. Harold has spent 14 seasons as a professional fishing guide on all of the major rivers in the area. He is also the owner of Big Frog Fly Shop. His website outlines the trips and services that he provides, and also has some useful links for anglers. I asked for some pictures and he sent me some good ones, as you'll see below.
Autumn Glory kicks off with The Moonlighters performing at the Kick-Off Reception on Wednesday October 10th in the Lodge at Wisp Resort. The group performs Motown/Supremes tributes and oldies from the fifties and sixties.
Since 1990, The Moonlighters have been establishing themselves as one of the region's best-loved groups, performing an unprecedented seven times at The Kennedy Center. They are noted for strong, soulful vocals and solid instrumentation.
The evening starts with a 6:00 pm cocktail hour and the sit down dinner begins at 7:00 pm. The reception ticket includes an open bar, hors d'oeuvres, a sit down dinner and first class entertainment, including the announcement of the 2007 Honorary Golden Ambassador and the presentation of the Autumn Glory Royal Court.
Everyone attending the Autumn Glory Kick-Off Reception for this Ruby Red anniversary receives a collectible Autumn Glory pin and Golden Ambassador pass. The pass entitles the holder to admission and priority seating at the Friday evening Official Maryland State Banjo Championship, admission to the Fiddle and Mandolin Contest on Saturday night, as well as priority seating on the bleachers near the reviewing stand for the Grand Feature Parade on Saturday afternoon.
Tickets cost $125 for one person and $195 for a couple. After October 5th, prices increase by $5.00 a ticket. Tickets are available for the Kick-Off Reception at the McHenry Visitors Center. The Baltimore Sun recently asked readers to name the "Seven Man-Made Wonders" of Maryland. It's not surprising that Deep Creek Lake made the list.
I can attest to the fact that this article from WTOP News is accurate regarding the trees turning color. I drove to Frostburg from the lake early Saturday morning and noticed the early change in the foliage. It was one of the most beautiful mornings yet this year in Garrett County - and that is saying a lot, considering the weather we've had this year.
Whitewater paddlesport leaders will gather October 19-22 at ASCI for the fifth annual Whitewater Symposium. This event brings people in the industry together to focus on how to best promote the sport.
