Here’s what’s happening at The Discovery Center this weekend:
Saturday May 26th
Black Bears and You – Are you camping or living/renting in Garrett County? Learn all about black bears and how to live with them. Touch a bear hide and skull too! Approximately 45 minutes.
1:30 PM Happy Herps! Ever wonder what is hopping and crawling across the roads during the night? Want to know how to tell a poisonous snake and the rest? Come and learn and see lots of live specimens! You never know what Amo and Frog will have! 45 minutes.
7:00 PM Campfire: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly! Join Frog and Amo for a Scales n Tales presentation at the Amphitheater. You will see live critters like snakes, a red-tailed hawk and an owl! Come early and roast marshmallows. In case of rain this will be held in the Discovery Room below the Discovery Center. Approximately 45 minutes.
Sunday May 27th
11:00 AM Got Cavities: Hike around the Discovery Center in search of bird and animal cavities, nests and dens. 30 minutes.
1:30 PM Spring Awakening Hike. Hike with a naturalist to the Snakeroot Trail. See the new wildflowers, hear birds and possibly find amphibians and other signs of animals. Please wear proper footwear. Approximately one hour.
Monday May 28th
11:00 AM Wildflowers and Medicinal Plants. Stroll around the Discovery Center looking for blooming plants and discuss their medicinal and edible uses. 30 minutes.
1:30 PM Critter Encounter. Watch the staff feed toads, turtles and fish. Then venture to the aviary and watch them care for and feed the red-tailed hawks and owl. 30 minutes.
